The SilverDoctors article seems to make an importance out of the bars passing an “xrf scan”, which only highlights the problem of people using tools without knowledge of how or why they work. XRF is simply a photon emissions technique and thus could only be useful on metals for analyzing surfaces, and anyone using it to check gold bars ought to be aware that it’s foolish to think that passing an XRF test actually tests the whole bar.

Yup. The reason they use tungsten cores is because it mimics the mass of gold, so it will pass surface inspections. You’ll only know for sure if you drill or melt it down.
