I mostly only use my phone for downloads in areas where I can connect to Wifi, but 3G speed is usually doable. I don’t have any hard numbers, but it’s not uncomfortable for me.

I’m just outside of Philly in South Jersey. For whatever reason, with the exception of Verizon, none of the other major carries have LTE around here. I’m like 10 miles outside of the 2nd biggest city on the East Coast. In Sprint’s case, its coverage literally stops at the Delaware River.

I may go with Virgin Mobile. You pay full freight for the phone, but they have a $35 monthly plan that include unlimited texting and 2.5 GB data unthrottled. Definitely cheaper over the life of the plan.
