I know that BP had a bunch of high-level officials out there at the time, and I can’t help but wonder if that didn’t play into it a bit, with the BP Company Man wanting to make some sort of impression on his bosses, about how tough and decisive he was.

Those sorts of meetings and discussions go on out on those rigs, daily. Usually, the Co. man will actually listen to the experts.
