Many still do. They hate the outcome of the Civil War and the 14th Amendment. They do not see us as a nation, but a collection of Sovereign States. Any attempt to change that, to create efficiency or rationality in our laws is COMMUNISM!!!!!

Whining about direct election of Senators is RWNJ ‘thought’ on this subject. I’ve never seen a sensible argument for why one would prefer US Senators to be named by state legislatures.
