Even 55%, the way representation is distributed, would not move the ball.
The movement to bring changes to gun laws is not even in the ‘lunch counter sit-in’ phase yet.
Note those are the numbers for an assault weapons ban. WP/ABC has 88% for universal background checks, while Pew has it at 85%. Slightly lower but similar numbers for a national registry. Even Reid acknowledged that an assault weapons ban is unlikely to pass in the House. But that does not mean all gun controls proposals are DOA.
