I’m having some difficulty right now; the Louisiana Group Benefits thing has me so damned steamed I can’t see straight.

They have an agency that has managed to take care of its business so carefully and frugally that it accumulated a SURPLUS, and so what does Jindal do?

He fires the head of the agency, appoints his own guy who has now resigned because Jindal is not forthcoming with information EVEN TO HIS OWN APPOINTEE, and proposes selling the agency (and its surplus) to a private company that will pay the state the $500 million surplus plus another $1 billion (is the figure I saw) for the operations. The $500 million is not the state’s money. It’s the money of employees and retirees who are in the OGB program. So the state gets it back? It should stay right where it is, as a cushion for the future benefit of state employees who paid the premiums. Gah. Sorry I went on a rant there …
