Also, in that video you can see at least two people working in the kitchen area. And it looks like it’s designed to not be an eat-in location, which is probably part of the “appeal” of an automated system at the point of contact.

At the McDonald’s locations I’ve been inside recently, people still cook the food (and presumably clean the equipment), but the registers are closed; orders are placed at the kiosk, and then it’s cooked to order and the kitchen staff bring it to the counter for you to pick up.
