To me, the late 40’s and early 50’s was a difficult time in American pop music. Serious music and movie music were going strong, but the radio “hits” kind of leave me cold.
Anyway, in 1949 Tommy Dorsey recorded one of the hot raging tunes (and dances) of that year, with Charlie Shavers:
