re: #260 klystron

Fun story: my co-namesake (friend of my mother’s growing up) actually sang in Cats on Broadway (Griselda, who sang Memory). I have a photo with her backstage during intermission, with her in full makeup.

This is a fun story. A friend of mine was the narrator of Lloyd Webber’s “Starlight Express” — singing trains on roller skates! — on Broadway for its first three or four years. She didn’t have to spend hours in makeup or get into costume or even appear on stage; she just talked into a microphone. After her contract ran out, she didn’t get another B’way gig for several years, but with what she earned from that one show she bought her midtown Manhattan condo.
