I’ll stick to my belief that if unions are outlawed we will have announced that freedom of assembly is limited to those of the correct political classes. Shortly thereafter all the other rights will be abridged as well for the same reasons.

Then we won’t be a democracy anymore.

And the people behind this legislation claim to be for freedom against political correctness. Grrr.

I understand what you’re saying, but as I read it, this legislation isn’t outlawing unions, it’s about preventing forced membership and payment of union dues as a condition of employment. It seems to me, one could consider unions as a political class, so it could be argued that by that same logic, the status quo already limits freedom of assembly to those of the correct political class.

Unions shouldn’t be outlawed, but neither should membership be a condition of employment.
