re: #21 LudwigVanQuixote

And I’ve been meaning to ask you because I really don’t understand it. I know that people in the states are worked up enough by shit like the right wing media and fox news to make death threats to scientists here, but why in Australia? I mean, what is the political dynamic there that allows this? I thought that the average Aussie was a little more willing to trust science than the typical American. Obviously this is not so. What do you think is going on?

As a nation we are often seen as laid back, I believe we are apathetic, are motto is ‘She’ll be right mate’.

I would suggest the population is concerned about Climate Change, however the cost of living seems more important, paying bills and keeping up is getting harder for the majority.

Why now, I would suggest it is because we are real close to pricing carbon, we expect our Labor Government (left) to set a price per tonne by July.
This tax will be paid by the industries that pollute, mainly mining, and we expect the costs to be passed down to the consumer.

Because of the flow on effect to consumers, Julia Gillard (left wing Labor Prime Minister) is going to compensate those in need, families and seniors.

I think its driving the polluters wild, and also our Liberal/National coalition (right wing). We do have some of the unions fearing job losses too, however the most recent report out suggest minimal job losses are expected.

We expect the price on carbon will be between $26-35 dollars per tonne.

I would suggest the death threats are coming from those who oppose the tax, no proof just fairly logical. Vested interests.
