Abbott knows that it simply doesn’t matter what he says or does in a debate like this. He will most likely win simply because he is the candidate of team (R) in Texas.

However, this attitude can be pushed too far (e.g., that Coakley idiot in MA that lost to Scott Brown by taking the general election for granted).
