I wonder if they ever stop to think how these statements are going to be viewed by their neighbors and the rest of the world?

I think that’s the point.They want to be a regional superpower and are already working on establishing allies like Syria. The last thing the want is for someone to interrupt arms shipments to their dictator pals or start arming the opposition.
