And as a Steelers fan, I can’t help but to think of the recently deceased Chuck Noll who along with Bill Nunn scouted small African American schools for talent and also gave African Americans like Tony Dungy coaching jobs in a time where black coaches were unheard of. I became a huge admirer of Lombardi’s when I learned about him staunchly defending a black player of his who was getting some shit because he was married to or dated a white woman. And even more groundbreaking was that he stood up for gay players too.

He (Lombardi) also helped the local native american people near Green Bay when no one else would. They would stand along the golf course and as he’d play through he would talk to them and give them as much of what they needed as he could.
