I apologize. I just think youâre wanting us to compromise on a key thing that makes our country works. Changing birth right citizenship isnât going to change businesses exploiting laborers. If anything, getting rid of that makes it harder. I apologize for lumping you in with Nativists but I do think youâre not seeing why this is a problem, birthright citizenship has worked for over 100 years. It works. If people donât understand that, thatâs on them for not understanding that naturalization is such an expensive and timely process.
My kids were born in Germany, which introduced birthright citizenship in 2000. With the simple caveat that the parents should be legally registered residents.
This is also what I meant about revising birthright citizenship should be part of a package of reforms that involves regulating and registering immigration
the current situation only aids the exploiters, the employers who pay sub-minimum wages at substandard conditions and the human smugglers.
That is a big, big issue and revising BC is only a small and ultimately insignificant part of it
