Originally, the blue checkmark was supposed to be designating news people and the like. They changed it a couple of years ago to people who identified themselves to twitter as real people (not just some anonymous user handle).

People still think it means something it doesn’t. That said, at this point I don’t think twitter knows what it means.

Is that why Milo was upset about losing his?
