We had to read a play version of that in middle school. I was Charlie. I forget his exact role in it but I’ve seen the actual episode and other TZ’s since. Rod Serling was brilliant. Not just at storytelling and exposition but making a point.

Um, Charlie is the guy who shot his neighbor and then started accusing everyone else—not a good role model, young man//

Charlie: [after inadvertently shooting who turned out to be a neighbor and presumed to be the invader] No! No, it’s nothing of the sort! I didn’t blow the lights out; I swear I didn’t! Someone’s pulling a gag or something!

Steve Brand: [grabs Charlie by the shirt] A gag? A *gag*? Charlie, there’s a man lying dead in the street, and you killed him; does that look like a gag to you?

[Charlie pushes Steve away and runs to his house; a stone is hurled at his head, creating a bleeding gash]

Charlie: Look! Look, I swear it isn’t me! I swear it isn’t! But I know who it is! I know who the monster is! I know who it is that doesn’t belong among us! I swear I know who it is!
