A reminder to all: the Pat Buchanan/Ron Paul wing of the GOP has a lot of influence. They believe firmly in isolationism: we need a military strong enough to deter any foreign attacks on our soil but we don’t care what happens elsewhere. They would have happily traded with Japan and Germany in the 1930’s and certainly would have had no interest in intervening to stop genocide or mass murder. The neo-cons (including Bill Kristol) who figured so prominently during the Bush 43 Iraq war obviously hold very different views but their influence has waned.

I’m thinking that troop movements take time and planning, especially ones as large as this. Surely the military will need more than two months to get started on this…
