Yeah, sure, but people who stop there, and don’t think “So, why is the 9 year old Gypsy girl a criminal?” and then reply “Because of the incredible history of oppression, ghettoization, and abuse of the Roma people, which continues to this day”, are intentionally being blind to the issue, and I hate that behavior. There’s no easy solution, but Europe owes the Roma. Big time. They should be putting in the effort, and not waiting for Roma society to suddenly uncurl from the defensive crouch it’s in.

The settled populations, even assuming the best will in the world, are in a trap. Switzerland got into a world of crap by trying to clumsily assimilate and ‘stabilize’ their migrant groups. Attempts to provide a better life for the Gypsy kid are a hair’s-breadth from soft genocide of the Roma culture. My personal bias is for the kid’s future, and I know that’s not going to fly.
