Marijuana being legal under state law does not make it legal under federal law. And while the DEA can decline to arrest you for having a pair of marijuana cigarettes, the FBI does not have such discretion when given your name for an NICS check. They must say the person in question is prohibited from buying a gun and the ATF must enforce that prohibition. Only Congress can change the law and allow those agencies to act differently.

Did you happen to catch the 60 Minutes bit on Medical Marijuana, Colorado, and how the DEA is approaching it all last Sunday? You might want to check it out.

I had football on and left the TV on CBS and heard the story when it popped on. Sounds like the DEA has an understanding that things are changing and are applying their enforcement to match. It is all changing. Alcohol has been far more dangerous and corrosive to this and other societies and it goes on. Younger folks and many of the baby boomer age know it is unbalanced law at best. It will all change in time.
