I was discussing the merits of fact checking on another forum recently. It is a laborious process and it’s hard to do a lot of this stuff yourself, the average person isn’t going to be able to pile through a 600 page technical NASA document. A lot of times you can detect the BS when reporters use phrases like “some people are saying” or “could this thing be happening”. It’s usually a sign of BS. Recently I find myself just believing less of what I read or whatever viral story is making the rounds. It’s almost impossible to detect all the bullshit so I’ve become more agnostic about everything.

Please. This is standard caution used by researchers anyway.

Using this type of reasoning is lazy; yes, you DO have to go through the study and evaluate it for yourself.
