re: #333 Aunty Entity Dragon

It wasn’t only about girl empowerment, it also subversively mocked the earlier Disney formula of Prince/Princess=instant love at first sight!

“The Princess marries some guy she just met” trope actually isn’t as prevalent in Disney princess movies as people think. Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and Ariel do (and Sleeping Beauty was actually an arranged marriage set up years before). Belle spends months with Beast before they hook up (of course, he’s an abusive kidnapper, so maybe even more disturbing), Jasmine doesn’t marry Aladdin until two sequels later, Pocahontas marries a completely different guy in the sequel. Rapunzel marries Flynn years later. Merida and Elsa don’t even have boyfriends at the end of their movies and Anna is just starting to date Christoff by the end. Tiana is a special case, because she thought she was going to have to spend the rest of her life as a frog when she married Naveen.
