Is it a race thing? I seem to remember Obama getting protection early on in his campaign too.

Obama had SS protection from March (i believe) of 2007 onwards, because he was already getting threats.
I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the same sorts of troglodytes were threatening Cain too, but this protection from journalists meme is going to kill him. Makes him sound like Saint Sarah of Wasilla, who also needed shielding from those terrible journalists.
