I was just responding to Rush’s statements. Of course past temps won’t tell us what climate should be like now. But, as you say, it will help us understand the effects of things like atmospheric chemistry on climate and help us control for those factors in the models. Rush was making a classic argument from ignorance, in all senses of the phrase.
