By the way, a story I read somewhere said that another man heard the shots and ran over to help — and he was armed. When he got there he saw someone holding a gun and nearly shot him.

The man with the gun was one of the victims, who had grabbed the gun away from Loughner. When the armed bystander drew down on him, other people yelled, “No, no! He’s not the shooter!”

So for those of you who like to think that more guns would have done something to prevent the massacre — in fact, there were plenty of guns around, and an innocent victim was very nearly killed because of them.

If the guy had been a cop, I would bet real money the innocent man in question would have been shot. He handled correctly, which was to be ready for trouble, but also to react as situations changed according to the information.

Not like the police idiots who shot and killed a man in Long Beach last month who was holding a garden hose nozzle…

BTW, the police were hidden, unanounced and shot the man from a hiding place without telling him to drop the “gun”.
