Interesting, but not really good data collection (and some of the comments actually covers some other potential explanations.)

My pet one is seeing how different numbers of people in an elevator sort themselves out; e.g. if four people on the elevator do they sort into the four corners (so to speak) or into some sort of 1-1-2 pattern. And so on.

I’ve never found I had that much choice in a crowded elevator. If you are first on you go to the back and make room for more people. If last one, you have to stand in front, that’s the only room left.
