DF why should we be even more murderous than the Soviets or Taliban?

Words like ‘nuke’ and ‘murderous’ aside, it remains true that the Taliban sheltered bin Laden. Therefore, I don’t see how we can walk away and let them take over again. I question the credibility of any parting threats we might make; barring terrorism orders of magnitude greater than 9/11, I question the willingness of our government to implement such threats. Otoh, I’m at a loss as to what to do.
