And not because those sort of people don’t exist, but because they have been either forced to conform to the SoCons in lock-step, or have been either marginalized to have no power within the party, or have been driven out altogether.As for there being room with the Democratic party for such a creature? Yeah, there has been, starting around 1992 with Bill Clinton (contrary to what the far right might want you to believe).
Clinton was the las of dying breed. Just google around for stories about the disappearing “blue dogs” and shrinking of the DLC.
