Crist is a mixed bag, in that he also supported Obama’s stimulus. That indicated an abandonment of Republican principles. It’s very fine to be for religious freedom, but he’s still not much of a Republican — at least not the traditional type. I can’t imagine that Goldwater or Regan would endorse him.

But Eisenhower and Nixon would have cheered him on; those principles and traditions are Republican, too.

Ike —
Interstate highway system.
great follow-through on the Marshall Plan his precedessor had initiated.
Huge nationwide school construction project.
Using the United States Military to enforce desegregation
Refusing to continue the Korean War.

Dick —
EPA
OSHA
Affirmative Action
Roe v Wade (his solicitor general’s amicus brief was in favor)
Proposed universal health care, energy independence, guaranteed minimum income (part of the short-circuited agenda lost when his criminal activities made him unable to continue doing his job).
