Buried in the NYT’s piece was the note that the groom in the scheduled wedding was the Satmar Rebbe’s* grandson, so I’m guessing that in addition to the “immediate family” (a large enough crowd in itself, probably), most of the sect’s mobile members were probably expected to show up as a sign of respect. And there are many thousands of them.

*ETA: One of them, the Satmars are a large enough sect they have two leaders…..
