Living in the Chicago area can make you feel that way. You get to see some real architectural wonders and it makes you want a home with that sort of touch.

I’ve done work for a Denver builder that’s been lauded by the local landmark people. They look like the old homes with modern touches. Starting price is about 1.4 million. Which is pretty low compared to what I see around here.

I know there’s a lot of nice looking Craftsman style homes in Denver too. But that does come with a price. Like crumbling sandstone brick foundations. 2x4 sewn lumber roof framing that may collapse under a heavy snow load. Occasionally having to mitigate asbestos.

People do want more of an “old house” look but they don’t want the old interior floor layouts. In general, people want large kitchens for example and well navigable hallways. Keep in mind too that lumber is very expensive if you want wood trim or real wood siding. Most people can’t afford traditional material and have no choice but to opt with modern materials.
