Sorry Rose, but it’s not a game changer. Aside from the fact that your link is to an article written by
Peter Gertler, the High Speed Rail Services Chair, HNTB Corp., Oakland, Calif. and hardly likely to be balanced, the fact is that light rail is still RAIL. And ya know folks who live in anyplace USA still need cars, trucks and other vehicles to get from the train station or freight yard to the supermarkets, hospitals, doctor’s offices and etc.
I’ve had this same discussion with LOTS of folks in urbanized areas and for some reason they don’t understand that you need some way to get goods and people from the rail stations to their terminus.
That’s why we need CHEAPER forms of electrical energy - electric cars and trucks would be SO much better for the economy and the “climate” than light rail - hell, most railroads in this country are already electrified.
All light rail really is, is a FASTER way to get the railroads from point A to Point B.
