I agree to it, but at the same time, I know BRAC only works when it levels its sights on something for which there’s no serious support in Congress. The last round BRAC said that NAS Oceana remaining open was conditional on VA Beach getting it shit together and condemning property that sat within crash corridors around the base. The city told them, essentially, to go frak themselves and did nothing. NAS Oceana remains open to this day, because BRAC had no alternative.

Well, I’m glad it stayed open because Naval Surface Warfare Center Dam Neck (which is co-located with Oceana) sends people to my company’s conferences.

This is one of those narrow focuses that are a problem. I’m not entirely part of the solution in some of these things, so I feel it needed to engage in a bit of disclosure in the interests of honesty.
