Speedy Gonzalez cartoons were never cancelled or withdrawn. Speedy is said to be very popular in Mexico.

He’s something of a folk hero there. The very first Speedy cartoon, ca. 1956, involved an impoverished band of border mice trying to raid a cheese factory on the other side. The factory was guarded by Sylvester the Cat. Speedy arrives, bamboozles the nefarious but incompetent Sylvester, and leads the band to success.

Seems rather topical now.

People often confuse Speedy with the Frito Bandito, a dirty uncouth advertising mascot who made his living stealing Fritos from good Anglo folk. Needless to say, the Bandito really was a racist stereotype.
