For thousands, tens of thousands, of years they managed to survive without depending on piracy and murder. Now you excuse it because it is more profitable than fishing or farming?

Death, or jail, can be translated into non profitable.

To quote Grosse Pointe blank (as best my memory recalls)

And has threatening to put people in jail managed to make the drug trade here in America “unprofitable?”
