re: #379 prononymous

the ultimate goal is to have a person at peace with their self image and their body, IMHO. Whichever route that may take

And of course the same people who bag on TG folks just for wanting to live life like they feel inside, are taking rogaine, doing botox, working out not for health but to lose weight, engaging in dangerous diets, obsessing about their hairline, getting plastic surgery, spending too much money on jewelry and cars to feed their own self-esteem needs. My partner’s mother has had more times under the knife for plastic surgery than I’ve had cars. I think she’s spent more on plastic surgery than I’ve spent on years of rent. if it makes her happy, great! it’s her money. But it’s all the same feelings. people not at peace with themselves. Our culture encourages this, but only if your desire is to conform and consume and be traditionally beautiful. Woe be to the woman who likes being overweight and defends her happiness with her body image.

Check out the nasty comments on HuffPo whenever someone has a tattoo on their face. The hostility whenever someone doesn’t have the conventional standards of beauty, it gets weapons grade ugly.

personally, I think botox is terrifying. Anyone who takes botox looks dead to me. Like they’re wearing a dead wax mask of their own face. Injecting poison into themselves, removing expression from their face. To me, that’s like cutting your fingers off to have smaller hands.
