It really gets me when people whine about what the government does with ‘their’ money. The money used by the government is no more their personal money than is the money they give to Walmart for that hair removal product or to pay the kid next door for shovelling snow. The money the government uses can be viewed as the public’s money so concerns that it not be wasted are valid, but not as an individual’s money.

It does seem different to me. The money I give the government is for the common good and the operation of the country, and I get to vote on some aspects of it, and have a critical eye for the uses it goes for. If I pay a kid to shovel the walk, I no longer have any interest or say in what the money goes for, because my walk got shoveled. With the govt., my question is, “Did we actually get the walk shoveled, or did you buy Cheetos with the money and stiff the walk-shoveler?”
