And that’s the problem with all of this, right there. I understand why the system works the way it does but it’s still infuriating for cities and states to almost have to go into debt to lure big companies with ginormous profits.

State and local governments need to start treating big businesses the way many of them treat profession sports teams: you want to come here, fine, but we’re not building shit for you and we’re not giving you tax money so you can build it.

There’s no reason that a business valued at a trillion dollars needs three billion dollars in kickbacks to open a new office.
