Why do people camp out for days, stand in a line that is blocks long, for a product that will be available everywhere?

What is so special about this product release frenzy, especially since you already know there is a countdown until the next product release frenzy?

A really, really great marketing machine. There’s also some speculation Apple may have held product back a bit to artificially generate lines.

I could see standing in line when the iPhone first came out in 2007. Now, it’s ridiculous. Just wait the the 3 frigging weeks until the supply chain ramps up.
