so, I get a notice in the mail that it’s time to renew my driver’s license.
Kentucky has finally moved over to the RealID licenses and this is a freaking joke.

The documentation requirements are way more than I need to provide for a passport, to vote, to open a bank account, to get a Social Security number.

It is going to cost me close to $100 to get the license and required documentation. In addition to a certified birth certificate (from Kentucky, mind you!) I have to provide a freaking marriage license from more than 40 years and that husband has been dead for more than two decades, plus a Social Security card (apparently an SSA1099 isn’t good enough, although a current year W2 would be O_o), AND TWO PROOFS OF RESIDENCE (gee…wonder if the freaking postcard they sent to my current mailing address is good enough…)

And my “legal name” has to match every freaking document.

This is ridiculous. And people who say that required documentation for voting isn’t extreme (especially for older women who have been voting for decades) can TAKE A FUCKING SEAT AND STFU.

My son, who moved to Kentucky last year as a grad student, got his passport specifically because of KY not being part of RealID (he needs it for other stuff, of course). Now they have it? I’ll have to tell him. I’m assuming he’d have to wait until he needs to renew his license.
