Removing silver from the US coins was a thing, a hot thing, way back in 1965. Today only the “libertarian” loonies rant on about debased currency, but back then the topic was of general interest.

Then when the Hunt bros. silver thing was going strong, everyone was getting on the silver bandwagon, and bags of dimes (a thousand at a time) were the hot thing.

We humans… we get fixated on these things.

While the gold bugs have been waiting for decades for us to notice our money is made of paper and has no intrinsic value, we’ve pretty much quit using paper money and moved on to electrons.
