Their battle is with Trump. Lawyers don’t leave cases because of prosecutorial developments, they adapt to them and adjust their defenses accordingly. They do leave cases because their clients refuse to take their advice, withhold information and sabotage all the work being done on their behalf. If Trump has really been floating trial balloons about issuing pardons, firing Mueller and asserting near imperial authority it’s not hard to imagine him also demanding that his lawyers suborn perjury and falsify evidence. The man has absolutely no boundaries.
