My parents are still alive so I have no idea what you are going through but I wish you the best during this time.

When my grandfather died it really affected my mother in a big way. She was very close with her father and was ‘daddy’s girl’. After the funeral we went to my uncle’s house for food & drinks. It was interesting to see his children all there telling funny stories about him. They spent the day remembering all the good times with their father.

My mom is very tough. She is holding it all together. If she goes into a shutdown, it will not be pretty.

We are definitely going to celebrate my father’s life. So far, 7 of my 9 kids are heading for LA, including my daughter in Israel, though she may not make it for the funeral.

It says in the Book of Psalms: “Then our mouths shall be full of laughter.” Our sages taught: At the Resurrection, there will be a great sound of laughter. What does that mean? A man who passed away at a very young age, will see his own son who lived to a great old age, and the young father and elderly son will embrace with laughter.

My grandfather, who passed away in 1918 at the age of 29, will see his 91-year-old son. He never saw his son during his lifetime.
