All I remember about the Boy Scouts from when I was a member, back in the days when WASPs were king and troops were all white, with maybe an Asian kid as whipping boy, was that the “clean in thought, word and deed” motto disappeared once we got out in the woods for our first hike and overnight camp. The entire time I was terrorized by older boys explaining in no uncertain terms what was expected of the new guys. We were to be sex toys. I had to feign illness to get out of that hell.
