As Eddie Izzard once pointed out, Pol Pot killed his own people, and here in the West, we’re sort of fine with that. It’s why he’s not as well known as someone like Hitler or Stalin, since they killed people next door.

I dunno. Most of Mao’s victims were domestic. It’s a fair point though. I think the fact that Cambodia’s obscurity plays a role too. I knew a bit of Cambodians growing up. Their parents and grandparents had to have been some tough people
