re: #404 lawhawk

A sheriff of a county that’s hundreds of miles from the border. From the article:

I had searched for koran, not the other spellings. It’s in there.

The problem is that it is anecdotal. He didn’t find anything. He’s probably relying on the same Fox News reports that claimed to find Muslim prayer rugs that turned out to be soccer gear.

What I think is going on is that some of these people think the border security/immigration issue is the most important issue above all others, so they’ll throw everything and the kitchen sink into the argument, including the potential that terrorists would cross into the country from Mexico, all in the hopes that the fear/threat would get more funding.

Updated: Midland County Sheriff will not seize arms if executive order passes

If a presidential executive order to collect guns from people’s homes is declared, Midland County Sheriff Gary Painter said he will not do so.

Painter made the remarks during a John Birch Society luncheon at the Midland Country Club on Thursday, one month after President Barack Obama announced gun control proposals in the wake of mass shootings across the country.

“No. 1, I don’t think executive orders are constitutional,” Painter said. “And No. 2, there’s gonna be one hell of a fight if they come and try to take guns out of my house.”

But according to Obama’s list of 23 executive actions found on the White House website, none explicitly state the seizure of weapons. Some of the executive actions refer to the federal background check system, and others refer to mental health.

Continues.
