Seventeener nonsense pops up out of the RW cesspool with regularity. Supposedly, the “rationale” is that since State Legislatures in “real America” are more “representative” (i.e. controlled by dedicated wingnuts) letting said Leges chose Senators will guarantee a permanent supply of Dedicated Wingnut Senators: a permanent majority, of course, since there are presumed to be more “red” states than “blue” ones, populations notwithstanding.
Ideology uber alles, of course: and yet another indication of how RWNJs really view democracy - the Voice Of The People always must be heard and hearkened to: as long as the message is the “correct” one…
