I pretty much assume any sort of othering of minorities is core to the GOP’s strategy, so my answer is yes, it’ll benefit the GOP in some respect

The question is will it wind up being a minor benefit or are great swaths of the country just going to go apeshit for a while

Unfortunately, in my opinion, a major benefit. This will be the second time that there will be a populist belief that the President has not payed attention to the feelings of the citizens. First the health care reform and now this issue. Both are issues that had populist opinions steering the dialog, and both times the perception was the President didn’t care.

Could cause major blowback in Nov.
