If Obama approves Carter’s remarks, he’s wrong. If he disputes Carter’s remarks, he’d still be wrong for throwing Carter under the bus.

OK, I think I figured it out- he can’t win for losing. He’ll be criticized no matter what he does.
If that’s it, then I agree. No matter what Obama does, he’ll get criticized for it by those looking to score points.
