Public executions have been a public spectacle since they were invented and never were a deterrent, they were a festive occasion. It is a recent development among a few societies not to have them and I think is a trend towards the better .
I have to confess when I would see documentaries about serial killers like Bundy being executed and seeing the crowds gather outside the prison to celebrate the execution. It just left a terrible feeling in me. Not that Bundy wasn’t a monster but I think it’s sick for people to celebrate a death like that.I mean don’t get me wrong, I understand the emotions especially if a monster like Bundy had taken one of your loved ones but there’s something disturbing to me about people who actually celebrate deaths.
